Why do pistol squats? When done properly, they improve strength, balance, proprioception or body awareness, coordination, mobility, flexibility and also make really nice looking legs. In a single movement, the pistol works flexion and extension for the hip, knee and ankle joint and you have to keep your core tight while keeping your chest up as well, forcing thoracic extension.
